Mr. Paré has been in private practice in the fields of maritime, insurance and international trade law since 1974. His litigation, arbitration and mediation practice has ranged from charter party, cargo damage and international trade disputes to insurance coverage and Oil Pollution Act cases. Mr. Paré has represented owners, charterers and underwriters in several major vessel casualties, including groundings, sinkings, explosions, tank coating failures and total cargo losses. In 1991, he successfully argued a case in the U.S. Supreme Court which overturned a long-standing precedent in maritime law.

Mr. Paré also advises clients on maritime contract terms and international sales matters, including the drafting of sales contract terms, form bills of lading and charter party clauses. He is a frequent speaker on maritime law issues and has lectured for Lloyd's of London Press on maritime liens and on U.S. litigation procedures; the Society of Maritime Arbitrators on arbitration procedures, the liability of agents and the role of an arbitration panel chairperson; the International Congress of Maritime Arbitrators on charter parties and the enforcement of arbitration awards; and the Maritime Law Association of the United States on admiralty jurisdiction and the U.S. Supreme Court.
