A founding partner with the firm, Mr. Vayda has focused his practice on international trade and physical product dispute resolution for over 25 years. He has developed an expertise in the litigation, arbitration, investigation and analysis of marine carriage and charter problems, oil spill disasters and oil trading disputes. He has represented a broad array of clients, including major U.S. petroleum companies, oil and other commodity trading businesses, independent vessel owners, charterers, P&I clubs and foreign governments, in dispute resolution both in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Vayda's extensive knowledge of oil spill laws led him to the chairmanship of the Maritime Law Association's Marine Ecology Committee and to frequent speaking engagements around the world. Lecturing on a variety of topics, recent engagements include: the International Conference of Maritime Arbitrators, where he lectured to several hundred international delegates and judges on the new topic of space and slot charters in the liner trades; Lloyd's of London Seminars, as a panel participant regarding "New Issues in New York Arbitration"; the American Marine Insurance Forum, where he conducted a seminar on due diligence and risk analysis to cargo and hull underwriters; and the Society of Maritime Arbitrators, where he taught a new member's workshop on the Power of Arbitrators to Grant Security.

Mr. Vayda's education was at Dartmouth College (A.B. with high honors 1972); Albany Law School of Union University (J.D. 1975); New York University Graduate School of Business Administration (core courses of M.B.A. program)

Mr. Vayda has been Chairman, Marine Ecology Committee, Maritime Law Association of the United States; United Nations (interne); World Association of Former United Nations Internes and Fellows (founding director); Adjunct Professor of Admiralty and Maritime Law, The College of Insurance
